CATHEDRAL OF ST MARIE – SHEFFIELD
22 TO 24 NOVEMBER 2018

England to be rededicated as the Dowry of Mary in 2020.

As part of the spiritual preparation for the rededication, the Statue of Our Lady of Walsingham
is visiting every Catholic English Cathedral!

The statue of Our Lady of Walsingham will be in the Diocese of Hallam
for a three day triduum of prayer between 22 and 24 November.

The 2020 rededication will be the offering of the faith of the people of this country
to the Mother of God, to seek Our Lady’s prayers for the loving care and protection of our country.

“The contemplation of the great mystery of the Incarnation has drawn all Christian nations
to venerate her from whom came the first beginnings of our Redemption.
But we English, being the servants of her special inheritance and her own dowry,
as we are commonly called, ought to surpass others in the fervour of our praises and devotions.”

Thomas Arundel, Archbishop of Canterbury 1399

"A moment of great promise …. for the Church in this country and for our mission"

Cardinal Vincent Nichols

SVP CHRISTMAS GIFTS

The SVP is hoping to continue its tradition of distributing Christmas gifts to the needy
of Chesterfield, and is once more appealing to the generosity and imagination of
the Annunciation and Holy Family parishioners in donating presents.
If you are able to help, please wrap your gift and attach a ‘post-it note’ to identify the contents:
e.g. building bricks for toddler 8-15 months, pyjamas for boy 7-8 years, jigsaw for girl 10-12 years,
toiletries for young/older woman, wash bag and contents for young/older man etc.
Children’s toys and gifts suitable for teenagers would be particularly welcome this year.
If possible the present should be unused, particularly in the case of cosmetics.
Please place the gift in the SVP box, which will be placed at the back of The Annunciation
and Holy Family Churches over the weekends of 17/18 November and 24/25 November.
The gifts will then be selected by our members at the beginning of December for distribution
around the Parish prior to Christmas.

Thank you.
