HOLY WEEK 2019
PLEASE MAKE TIME TO ACCOMPANY OUR LORD
THOUGH THE JOURNEY OF YOUR SALVATION!
Today is the beginning of the holiest week of the year,
the week we call Holy Week.
During the first Holy Week, two thousand years ago, Jesus achieved victory over sin and evil.
During this Holy Week, he wants to extend that victory into our lives,
into the parts of our lives that still need it, that still haven't learned how to live
the paradox of Palm Sunday.
He wants to come into our hearts this Holy Week in the same way he came into Jerusalem,
humbly and peacefully, riding on a donkey. Then, it was a literal donkey.
Now, the donkey that brings Christ into our hearts is the Church.
The liturgical celebrations of this coming week, as beautiful as they are,
will only be a dim shadow of the true glory of Christ that they represent,
a humble vehicle, like the donkey. But the liturgy is also a dependable vehicle, like the donkey,
and Jesus will be truly present in them. We just have to open the gates in the walls around our hearts.
And we can do that by making this week different: by turning off the radio and television
more often than usual, by spending more time in prayer than online,
and, most importantly, by making our own sacrifice, so precious in God's eyes:
the sacrifice of our time. It takes time to join this family of believers for this week's liturgies,
praying, worshipping, contemplating, receiving the sacraments,
discovering what God has to say to us this Holy Week.
Jesus knows what he wants to say to each one of us this week,
the holiest week of the year. Let's give him the time and attention he deserves,
because whatever it is he wants to tell us, it will be exactly what we most need to hear.
HOLY WEEK CHILDREN’S WORKSHOP
Holy Week workshop for primary school children: Wednesday 17 April
in the Church of the Annunciation Parish Centre, 9.45am – 12 noon, £3 per child.
You must pre-register your child and complete a form (available from the back of church)
to be brought on the day. To register, please click below.
SATURDAY HELP NEEDED
Saturday is the busiest day for our Parish Priest: Baptisms, weddings
and two Saturday evening Masses. These are just some of the responsibilities.
Father Roy has said he will celebrate the 10.00am Mass at Church of the Annunciation.
As we know Father Roy’s mobility is very much restricted at present
so he will need our help. A Rota for opening/setting up etc.. is being proposed.
Please let the Parish Office know if you are able to help in any way.
MASS TIME CHANGES
Click below to read about the upcoming changes to the current Mass Times,
that will come into effect as of Sunday 28 April 2019.
OFFICE OF MORNING PRAYER
Each Wednesday the Office of Morning Prayer will be said at
Church of the Holy Family from 8.00am.
This is an ideal opportunity to increase our devotions in Lent.
CARDS FROM KIRK EDGE
Now available from both our churches - a variety of beautiful cards
made by the Sisters at Kirk Edge Convent.
IT ISN’T TOO LATE TO SIGN-UP!
If you missed our recent sign-up opportunity,
you can still do so at any time via the Volunteer page in the Parish menu
by clicking below, or by using a form from the back of church.
Please post forms in the sealed boxes at the back of church
(in envelopes at Holy Family).
OF HOLY COMMUNION
New or existing ministers who have not completed the training day
which was held on 19 January must contact Father Adrian as soon as possible,
so a day can be arranged to catch up on training and new procedures.
This is very important as it also includes safeguarding procedures.
Boxes of envelopes for 2019/20 are now available at the back of both Churches
near the rear entrance. Please collect your own box, and for Annunciation only, please check
that your address details are correct. If not, then please record the amended details
on the sheet provided. Please remember to put the box number as well as your name and address.
If you do not have a box and would like one, then a member of the Finance Committee
will be present at the end of each Mass on March 17/24/31 at Annunciation, or for Holy Family
there will be helpers available at the back of Church. If you use the envelope scheme
you do not commit to giving a set amount each week. If you pay tax and have not signed
a Gift Aid form, these will also be available after each Mass. It costs nothing, only one simple form
needs completing which covers all future years, and the Parish gains an extra 25p for every £1
that you give under the envelope scheme, or by bank standing order payments.
Gift Aid monies are a very important source of funds for us and, by way of example,
over the past 25 years provided sufficient funds for Annunciation to wholly fund the substantial
net cost of the recent re-ordering. Total annual gift aid could be increased substantially
if more parishioners who are tax payers used offertory boxes or standing orders.
Click below for more information on the scheme.

it is time to hand the reigns of the Tuesday over 60s Club to someone new.
If you are interested please speak to Fr Adrian.
READERS AND OFFERTORY PROCESSION
There is a great shortage of volunteers - individuals or families - for the Offertory Procession
at all Masses especially 7.00pm. Please consider participating in this important ministry.
The more there are the less often your turn comes around.
ANNUNCIATION MUSIC MINISTRY
Please consider joining our music ministry at the Annunciation.
The music is now identical for both the 9.30am and 11.00am Mass
and we perform in a range of different styles, led by three different musicians on rotation,
who each bring their own styles and expertise with them.
We rehearse on a Thursday evening at 7.30pm in the church,
and would really like new members, both to sing and/or play an instrument.
